August 29th – September 2nd, 2019

Balance and Connection Yoga Retreat in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.

On this Labor Day Weekend, we will focus on restoring our mind-body connection through yoga, breathing and meditation. Our mission is to achieve balance and vitality on and off the mat.  We will be covering ways to reconnect and return to a healthy space. We will explore connection on a personal level as well as how we as a group of humans can work as a collective for overall balance.

We will cover a range of activities and CBD education that promote healthy habits that you can implement into your daily city lifestyle. Our retreat is a safe space. We will provide an encouraging environment of exploration through yoga. But we will challenge you in the areas of your life that require growth and understanding.

Balance and connection in all areas of your life is an ongoing journey. Get a fresh start in the sunny beaches of the Dominican Republic.

Highlights include:

  • Daily sunrise asana practice
  • Evening restorative yoga
  • Meditation
  • Pranayama – breathing techniques
  • AcroYoga workshop
  • CBD Education

We will also have an opportunity to learn about and enjoy Dominican culture—all while supporting local innovators in sustainability and wellness.

Our hosts at The Yoga Loft, have a mission of making sustainability accessible through conscious tourism that promotes local empowerment. We will stay at the eXtreme Hotel, a solar-powered, eco sports hotel right on Kite Beach, Cabarete. The Taino Organic Farm, a community and educational center, will provide local and nutritious food for our breakfast and dinners.

There’s plenty more to explore in Cabarete, a small coastal town in the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, which is known for its various sports and outdoor activities. You will have daily down time to explore local spots and the nightlife, if you wish.

Head over to the Yoga Loft blog to learn more about the eXtreme Collective and the lifestyle of Cabarete.

Who are we?

Estefania Valencia and Moraima Capellan, met during their university years at SUNY Oswego in Oswego, New York. With many common interests, including a lifestyle focused on wellness, they have been friends ever since.

Moraima Capellán - Balance and Connection Yoga Retreat - Cabarete, Dominican RepublicBorn in the Dominican Republic, raised in New York City, Moraima is a certified yoga instructor (500 RYT) at the Yoga Loft and a freelance writer and photographer. Her yoga professional training was focused on the anatomy of the Asana practice, with a focus on hands-on adjustments and restorative yoga. Like many Yoga students, Moraima arrived to her mat following a major surgery. Open-heart surgery and a lifetime of congenital heart disease left her longing for a way to rejuvenate and connect with her innermost self. Yoga was the answer to her needs.  Moraima is passionate about responsible tourism and providing resources to underserved communities. Her classes tend to be on a slower pace with a focus on alignment and moving with intention.

Estefania Valencia - Balance and Connection - Caribbean Yoga RetreatBorn in Colombia and raised in Hudson Co. NJ, Estefania is a certified yoga instructor (200 RYT) and AcroYoga instructor. She began her movement practice as a young salsa dancer and teacher and later transitioned into a yoga practice as a young teenager. Recognizing the many benefits of yoga at a young age, inspired Estefania to dive deep into natural healing and education. Her passion for medicine and animal life led her to obtain a BS in Zoology from SUNY, Oswego and was accepted into Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After a tragic accident in her family, Estefania was forced to end her veterinary career path and became her mother’s caregiver. After seeing the damage of pharmaceutical pain management, she began to administer medicinal cannabis to her mother and was amazed at her recovery. Estefania is also a Lyme Disease warrior and a NJ medical marijuana patient. It did not take long for Estefania to see the positive impacts cannabis had on the quality of life of both her and her mother. She co-founded SannaOhana Wellness & Yoga with her boyfriend Salam Diri with the aim to enhance the community’s perception and eliminate the stigma toward cannabis by delivering a one of a kind CBD and Yoga educational experience.

What is CBD?

Phytocannabinoids are active compounds in the Cannabis plant that have a profound effect on our bodies. One of these Cannabinoids is CBD – a non psychoactive compound also known as Cannabidiol. In order to understand how CBD affects our bodies, it is important to have some knowledge of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

What is The Endocannabinoid System?

The ECS is a network of endocannabinoids (cannabinoids made by our body that function in our brain as neurotransmitters) and cannabinoid receptors that exist throughout our human bodies and most animals on earth.

How do CBD and The Endocannabinoid system work together?

CBD interacts indirectly with the ECS, by preventing the breakdown of those naturally produced endocannabinoids that our ECS needs to function, in a nutshell, CBD gives the ECS system a nice boost.
