New Year Yoga Retreat: Self-Awareness Through Exploration

in the Caribbean
Dec 27, 2019 – Jan 3, 2020

During this New Year Yoga Retreat, we will focus on self-awareness through exploration. Self-awareness is all about what makes you tick: your emotions, sensations, triggers, likes, dislikes, thoughts and beliefs. Through a daily yoga practice and a range of group activities we will safely explore our current state of being and where we would like to direct our intentions for the year 2020.

Resolutions always trend around the New Year and while they may work for some, sometimes we NEED to get away from our daily distractions in order to reconnect with our roots.

There are some lessons that only you can teach yourself. If you have reached a stagnant routine in your day to day life or feel out of touch with your intuition and desires, it may be time to seek different experiences. Lessons are hidden in the unknown. Exploring the unknown leads to self-awareness and reflection.

This retreat is designed to safely explore our relationship with ourselves and the world around us. Our morning yoga practice will feature a rejuvenating morning sequence of physical postures with a morning meditation. Our evening class will be a restorative sequence at our loft space overlooking the sunset at Kite Beach. Everyday will feature a group activity and/or excursion following our intention for the day.

This retreat is open to yogis and yoginis of all levels, beginners are welcomed.

Highlights include:

We will also have an opportunity to learn about and enjoy Dominican culture—all while supporting local innovators in sustainability and wellness.

At The Yoga Loft, we have a mission of making sustainability accessible through conscious tourism that promotes local empowerment. We will stay at the eXtreme Hotel, a solar-powered, eco sports hotel right on Kite Beach, Cabarete. The Taino Organic Farm, a community and educational center, will provide local and nutritious food for our breakfast and dinners.

There’s plenty more to explore in Cabarete, a small coastal town in the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, which is known for its various sports and outdoor activities. It is the ideal location for a sunny Caribbean beach getaway that will encourage reflection on a personal level and as a collective of human beings on this earth. You will have daily down time to explore local spots and the nightlife, if you wish.

Your host: Moraima Capellan

Born in the Dominican Republic, raised in New York City, Moraima is a certified yoga instructor (500 RYT) at the Yoga Loft and a freelance writer and marketing specialist. Her yoga professional training was focused on the anatomy of the Asana practice, with a focus on hands-on adjustments and restorative yoga. Like many Yoga students, Moraima arrived to her mat following a major surgery. Open-heart surgery and a lifetime of congenital heart disease left her longing for a way to rejuvenate and connect with her innermost self. Yoga was the answer to her needs.  Moraima is passionate about responsible tourism and providing resources to underserved communities. Her classes tend to be on a slower pace with a focus on alignment and moving with intention. Moraima’s Instagram: @moraima_cp
