What To Do In Cabarete
The North Coast on the Dominican Republic is saturated in natural beauty, from alpine forests to postcard beaches, you can experience it all! Water Lovers:
Scuba Diving/ Sosua Beach
Sosua is only a 15 minute guagua or carrito ride west of Cabarete, where the crystal clear turquoise waters are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can rent snorkeling gear at many places along the beach and head out on your own, the coral close to the shore is beautiful and full of ocean life. If scuba diving is more your style, Aqua Adventures (https://www.scubadivesosua.com/) located right by the parking lot at the entrance to the beach, offers single or multiple dives, as well as night dives and even certification course.
While at Sosua Beach you can rent a beach lounge, enjoy some cold beers or coco locos (a Dominican specialty) and grab some food while taking in the view and some vitamin sun!
Windsurfing
One of the top ten windsurfing locations in the world, Cabaretes fantastic conditions are ideal for all levels of windsurfer, from beginners to expert. Mornings are best for beginners with calmer winds, which pick up in the afternoon drawing out the pros! Windsurfing took off in this picturesque beach in the mid 80s and has been going strong ever since. Every year in June the international competition, Cabarete Race Week take place, drawing amazing competitors from all over the world for your viewing pleasure! You can book lessons or rent gear year-round at any of the schools along the beach in town.
Surfing
A ten-minute moto drive away from Cabarete lies Playa Encuentro, an amazing, world class surfing beach. It has rideable waves 350 days of the year, areas perfect for beginners and first timers all the way to world competing pros! There are some great schools on the beach where you can rent a board, or take a half day lesson and try it out!
Kite Boarding
If you booked a vacation at Kite Beach you can’t miss the fact that it is one of the most desired amazing world renowned kiteboard beaches out there. Boasting win 350 days of the year on average you’ll be hard pressed not to fit in some time on your board while here!
White Water Rafting
Cabarete is only a four-hour drive away from Jarabacoa, which is home to the highest point in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte (3,087 meters high) and with this great height come great rivers! Heading out early in the morning (maybe grabbing some zzzzs on the way, or taking in the amazing Dominican countryside) you can be rafting down the Caribbean’s longest river, the Yaque del Norte through canyons and rapids and back home in one unforgettable day!

Hiking
El Choco national park in our backyard you can take a stroll through to tropical forest literally at your door step! There are many unpaved road (you’re bound to meet more four legged animals then cars on these paths) that offer a look into the other side of the Caribbean – it’s not just ocean and sand! The Cabarete Caves are located right here in town and are a great way to spend a few spare hours or a rainy afternoon.
Mountain Biking
World class, award winning mountain-biking tours are offered by an internationally renowned local firm, Iguana Mama, leading scenic daily excursions that range from beginner trails to challenging, advanced-level rides through the bush. Zip Lining
In the next town over, only a 15 minute guagua ride, then a 10 minute motoconcho ride up the mountain lies Monkey Jungle and Sip Line Adventures. Here you can expereice 4,500 feet of adrenaline boosting ziplining. There are 7 stations and 2 suspended bridge and you get to drop in on a bat cave and say hi! While you’re there you can also check out the Botanical Park full of monkeys and other animals or give a go at the gun range. If you want to explore a little future about an hour outside of Cabarete on the mountain road to Santiago lies zip lining at its best. You’ll be suspended 100m in the air while you zip through the jungle canopy on this fun day trip.
Waterfall tours
Another amazing day trip – the waterfalls are about an hour and a half drive away from the hotel, a 45-minute hike up the mountain leads you to your water loving adventure! You’ll jump and slide down 27 waterfalls (ranging from 2 to over ten feet) with gorgeous grottoes and some unforgettable views. The whole experience takes about 2.5 hours, not including you travel time.
Horseback riding
Whether you’re an expert horseback rider or an amateur, you will find plenty of equestrian ranches nearby that offer both beach rides, lush mountain expeditions. Rancho Luisa y Tommy meet groups right here on Kite Beach and offer Half Day – Sunset tours through the mountains and rivers or a Full Day tour that includes lunch and a river swim. You get to see the beautiful lush forests in the country and a different side of the Caribbean that normally comes to mind!
